Another Update…..

I’m sorry there hasn’t been much reviews or news lately, its getting near the end of the semester, so once again, I am incredibly busy. As soon as my schedule eases up a bit I promise a lurry of articles.

Anywho, here is an update:

For starters A Nerd’s Guide To The Universe(S) is going incvredibly strong. We are now on iTunes as a free podcast and have our own website.

Also, preliminary work on B.I.G. City (some sketches and designs, first story is almost completely writtren) and my unnamed detective film has begun. Hopefully this summer I will be able to get some substantial work on these two projects done.

There was something else that happened this weekend?

Oh, there was something else major that happened on March 6th you say? The release of the movie adaptation of the most celebrated graphic novel/comic book miniseries (yes it was comic book miniseries at one time as most graphic novels are) of all time? Winner of 1988 Hugo Award and on of Time Magazine’s top 100 novels since 1923, the only comic book/graphic novel to do so was released in film format you say? In all seriousness I skipped WATCHMEN in my last blog so that I could avoid creating one big super post but to you who answered my questions I say………..meh. 

Don’t get me wrong WATCHMEN has always and probably always will be the epitamy of mastery of the comic art form. HOWEVER, I have never been that crazy about it. Before you cry out, I understand the story in all its depth and glory, I love Mr. Gibbon’s art it just doesn’t strike a particular chord with me. I appreciate and recognize it artistically, its just not my favorite. Why you may ask? I’m not 100% sure, not to mention that is an article for another day. 

NOTICE: I loved the movie, it was brilliant. Zach Snyder and everyone who worked on this film were brilliant. Casting was amazing. I am not just some angry fanboy who only says negative things. These are just my thoughts.

Anyways, my attitude toward the original novel is the first reason that I couldn’t really get into the movie. I loved the style of the movie. It was beautiful. If this style had been put on another movie I would have flipped my lid. Absolutely gorgeous, BUT I was just not that into the characters or the story, so the connection was not there. 

The second reason for the aforementioned “meh” is that even I could tell that there was a lot lost in translation from comic book to film. Sure the story and its characters work just fine. An audience that has not read the book will understand the story just fine but the real depth of those characters and their universe is almost completely lost. I noticed this in the amount of people walking out the theatre saying things like “Rorschach is badass!!” No young viewer with your smiley t-shirt from Hot Topic, Rorschach is NOT badass. Rorschach is a sociopath. He is not someone to be idolized. That just shows your complete and utter misunderstanding of what the character is and what Alan Moore was saying with that character. You sir, are an idiot. Btw, the irony that t-shirts for a book/movie that denoted modern corporate capitalism did not escape me, but I digress. 

The movie is extremely well done and deffinitely takes third as the best superhero ever made. Right behind (1) The Dark Knight, and (2) Iron Man (I don’t care what you say about Spiderman 2 and/or X2, neither of those movies deserve being the the best superhero movie).

Spring Break and other things (probably)

Spring Break at Northern Kentucky University began on Friday March 6th. Consequently this puts the next episode of A Nerd’s Guide To The Universe(S) postponed until Tuesday the 17th, and puts me living in my parents house in the illustrious Henry County, Kentucky for about a week. I am spending plenty of time with Caitlen though and my parents are in Florida till Wednesday night so I have their house to myself (and my oldest little brother) so its not all bad. 

The guys and myself  from A Nerd’s Guide To The Universe(S) attended the official grand opening of the comic book store we make a mecca to every Wednesday, COMICS 2 GAMES. If you follow me on twitter or are a fan of A Nerd’s Guide To The Universe(S) on Facebook, which I’m sure you are then you would have known that were attending.

Just an Update

I haven’t had a post in a while because I was trying to figure out if it was worth it to keep writing or if this was all going to be erased due to my Intro to Social Media class. Well its not! So here’s an update on whats going on with me and my projects!

A Nerd’s Guide To The Universe(S) is going great. We finished our third episode this week and soon it will start appearing on iTunes (within the next few weeks?). This coming Tuesday (March 2nd) will be our special PRE-WATCHMEN episode! 

Head In A Storm Cloud has a few projects in the pipeline, we’ll see what I can get going in the immediate future. 

I had a major breakthrough in the development of my detective film. Some of the plot points finally got worked out and I can move forward a little bit more. Hopefully, we’ll see a screenplay and script in the next month or two and a storyboard soon after that. When I say we, I mean me and the people helping me! You have to wait till its done! I wouldn’t want to give the story away!! 

I just finished readin Sinestro Corps War. Very impressive, of course it is Geoff Johns. Superboy Prime is annoying as hell. The Anti-Monitor went down to easy. The thing I thought was weird was that when these two universe destroying villians show up, the Anti-Monitor and Superboy Prime, all the heroes immediately react to Superboy Prime and not the Anti-Monitor hardly at all. Now don’t get me wrong, Superboy Prime, is by far one of the MOST powerful characters in the DC universe, but the heroes should have been downright terrified of the Anti-Monitor!! He destroyed thousands of universes! Hes fucking terrible! He is the worst thing they’ve ever faced! There was almost not reaction. They were all very preoccupied with Superboy Prime. 

My friend brought up the fact that some of the characters might not have remembered it. I think this was true right after the event happened, but I know at least Superman has had his memory of it restored since Infinite Crisis. Again, pretty weird. 

I’m reading Crisis On Infinite Earths right now. I’ve read the other crises -Infinite Crisis (woo), Final Crisis (meh) but I’ve never made it back to where it all started, but now I finally am. Ya know what? I’m pretty dang impressed. The dialogue is a little cheesy, but hey it was 1985.  This is how crossovers should be set up however. Every hole is covered and the story has a lot of depth. Very pleasing, Full review when I finish it. 

I am going home again this weekend so it’ll be one of those things where I’m going to be online a lot or none at all. Hopefully a lot cuz I have quite a bit of work I could be doing.
